Here’s my ranking:
1st place = Josh
I always loved psychos and villains in movies and games in general. In the beginning, we portrayed him as the group’s pervert and he made me laugh a lot too! I immediately liked the fact that he was a troublemaker. He likes gossip and loves to be part of them (what a surprise!). His relationships with all the other characters were pretty complex (lovely relationship with Sam, Hanna and Beth's brother, Chris bestie, the third wheel, Mike's worst enemy, chalet's host...), and it’s sad that the one who had a mental illness could not have a happy ending... I felt pity for him the moment he started to show signs of craziness (traumatic event). I think, as many said, that Rami Malek has something to do with that...
Let's be honest: he played the role like a fucking boss.
2. Sweet Jess
Jessica is bae but, just like Matt, we don’t see her as much as she deserved it. Her bitchy attitude reminded me of Sharpay in High School Musical, so I didn’t love her at first sight LOL. But, at least, she created some beef among the characters! When we started to know her, we realized that it was all fake and she soon became really nice. Remember at the beginning when she tried to be confident when welcoming Chris and Sam? I found her really cute and entertaining! I cried a lot when she died in my first storyline. When she finally survived, her facial expression made me really, really sad. She’s soooo important in the story, and way more than just a sexualised young lady.
The blondie cliché rekt us all.
'3rd place = Mike'
Michael is the type of bro you needed by your side in high school, but he is so much more than that: he's also the man of the situation! Indeed, his gameplay was breath-taking and his courageous reactions through the story were amazing (Wolfie's obviously a Gryffindor, don't you think?). If you said you would still go after your gf after she has been kidnapped by a bear, just like Mike did… I don’t trust you. Yes, at first he was like: Sup, I'm a douche and proud of it... Now, who's wanna bang on the couch?!, but he has slowly become one of the most important character in Until Dawn. He's intelligent (for example: when he had the idea of burning the entire place at the very end) and didn't fear death at all. Although he was the typical hero of the storyline, we still needed him.
Slay babe, slay.
4th place = Em
Yeah, I know... Sometimes she has her temper, but unlike some people in the clique, she's a true survivor! Emily knows how to deal with pressure and never gives up (even if her gameplay is probably the most difficult to handle with the falling tower, being chased by a Wendigo when she only had her tricks to survive etc.). She could have been placed in top three, in my opinion, but the way she acted in the end just proved us that she doesn't deserve the title (when she has pushed Ash against the wall to save her own skin, like… ok no chill).
In brief, she’s a dangerous woman.
5rd place = Sir Christopher
Also known as the most sarcastic dude on the planet, Chris is a very relatable character in my opinion, but he's not less of a good guy! As I said, his way of thinking joined me the most (when he suspected that someone was faking when playing Ouija etc.). He's the most logical and rational character of all, but he would do literally everything for his friends (when he go after Josh without hesitation, knowing that he would probably have to face death). He's loyal, smart and he was in control in almost every situation. At some point, I thought he was the killer (doing a SECOND prank to Sam in the chalet), but then I realized he just wanted to have fun instead of letting himself sink in pain again.
Poor baby, the choices he had to make were the worst dilemmas ever.
5. Ash
Just like Em, I personally think that Ashley is an underrated character in Until Dawn. I also think that the ones who hate her can’t deal with the fact that she would probably be our actual reaction if we were in the story. After what she had been through (seeing Josh being ‘’killed’’), I found her gameplay pretty legit (yes, even the vampire fucked up part). Otherwise, I loved the fact that she noticed every details around her (the candle, the spirits etc.). After going into all the darkest places in the chalet, I think she had make the perfect detective of herself, even if she was really naive.
Her innocence is definitely not ignorance.
7. Matty-bae
I gave Matt a participation’s medal for his presence in Until Dawn. Even if he was the newbie of the gang, I personally think that he deserved WAY MORE attention that he actually got! They should have make a big plot twist consisting in him knowing the sisters before or something, but Matthew was and stayed the nice guy till the very end. He thought his gf was cheating on him since the beginning (well, maybe he was right indeed…), but talking about that when the freaking tower was falling, like?? Ain’t nobody got time for that??
Even if his exchanges with Em were pretty funny, they didn’t get along together as a couple. Sometimes his drama queen’s attitude got on my nerves, but seeing him with Jess was the best moment of my life. NOW, KISS!
Don’t get me wrong: Matt is the perfect boyfriend.
8. Sam
Believe it or not, Samantha is the character I related the least to, mostly because she always appeared in situations out of nowhere. While the others were fighting Wendigos or trying to get the heck out of the sanatorium, she was… taking a bath. While the others were risking their lives outside, she was just about screaming: ‘’is someone out there?!’’. Even though she tried to help Josh, it was a bit too late to do so: fella was planning on almost killing you for a stupid show, sweetie. I also didn’t really like her heroine comeback in the game and her mom’s attitude towards the ones who were living the drama.
Have some fun, be sociable, for God’s sake!
(Don’t panic lol, I really loved Sam despite my analysis… At first, I liked her, but she turned to be a random character in my opinion).
